Cerberus Mission 9, Sat 11 Jan 2014

Post by :FI:Blue2 » Sat Jan 11, 2014 8:19 pm

The guys are using a "time skip" feature in SEOW, so the mission numbers won't always be sequential. That's why this is mission 9, even though it's only the 7th mission flown in Cerberus.

Mike I also thought your post was completely understandable. It's always "to each his own" and all. You've probably already considered these points, but just in case....
1) I know it was kinda "painful" putting up with CountZero on the mission you flew. You do realize there's no need for that to ever happen again, right? We could always work it out so we have some "FI only" flights, just like the 1.JaVA boys usually do on Cerberus missions. (They didn't on the mission you flew, but have on almost every other one if 2 or 3 of them were there.) We could always make that request, and the planner would make it happen.
2) Don't be too quick to judge the whole campaign based on the one mission you flew. Since we didn't know where the fleet was early on, this campaign was always destined to have some boring/slow missions at first. Now that the fleet has been located (approaching Cherbourg), action is ramping up sharply. We're also back to days, so there are multiple flights of fighters on each side. Today's mission has most of ours escorting bombers at high altitude, with express intent of drawing the 109's into combat. **Edit** Looks like the 6 human fighters in this role are already claimed for today's mission. We'll probably need to give advance notice next time if we want to take a flight of them. Participation is picking up, and the planners are starting to plan human fighter according to how many people they expect. Others are planned as AI only.

Anyway we'll miss all who decide to bow out, but I hope some of you will think twice. Still plent of fun to be had here. We just might want to discuss it on our own, and tailor our part of the campaign to suit some of our personal preferences. So for anybody who's "on the fence," give it some thought. For those flying, see you in a few hours! ^:)

Hey Larry and =FI= !

Just showed up to give a debrief of Mission 9:

What a mission..

Took off from Harrowbeer with Hayzee, Jumper and Keben in a flight of Wellingtons (9x 500pounds) to form up with CountZero and his fighter group of Spits (Petr, RedDevil, FI-Blue) and Charlie, flying Halifaxes with lewilewi.

Rendez-vous point was over the Airbase of Seaton. I had a lot of trouble getting there due to my bad navigation

In another flight Cat and Tanker were flying Beauforts.
There were lots of AI Hudsons that were bait for axis fighters

We had a pretty good idea of the location of the main Axis fleet and their heading.

After 30 minutes first contact with the enemy was established. The Spits did very well defending the Wellingtons. Kudos to Blue, Petr, RedDevil and CountZero! =D]

Keben and me pressed on to the fleet, Jumper did so on lower altitude and Hayzee was somewhat behind us.

Unfortunately I was hit by Flak coming from the isle of Guernsey, my left engine got on fire. Managed to put the fire out with the extinguishers but the plane had critical damage on the left wing. A minute later it fell off and I had to jump.

While hanging in my chute, I saw CountZero, FI_Blue, Petr and Red Devil fighting against a group of Friedrichs..both F2's and F4's. There were at least 2 Friedrichs smoking. Later it became clear that they had killed 6 of them! Among them were some Human Axis!

In the meanwhile Keben was lining up with the KM Gneisenau! One of the three Battleships we have to sink in order to win this campaign.
He managed to hit the KM Gneisenau with 3 hits and got it damaged seconds before the flak got him...

Charlie managed to take down 9 (Yes, NINE !) Friedrichs on his own before he had to bail out. (hey Guiness Book...thats a new record!)

Anyway, you can read it all here:

..Larry says it:

..and I agree completely! Now the missions become more attractive for the fighter Jock's! Show up guys, we, the Bomber Pilots are in desperate need of Fighter Pilots.
You enlisted in great numbers for this camapaign, your appearance is very welcome!

For Sunday 12th I can plan you guys in..I only need to know a number...
We attack again with Beauforts and Swordfishes.. a couple of heavies maybe..but we need protection!

Deadline of enlisting will be around 16.00hrs. Then I need to plan you in wich will take me another hour.
Come on guys, your chance to show them what you're made of !
